What abuse in relationships look like

Mental, emotional and physical abuse in a relationship can completely destroy a person’s soul. Abuse in general, can be heart-wrenching as the victim loses control over themselves and ends up being a puppet at the hands of their abuser. Sadly enough, abuse can also happen in relationships and the abuser can be your partner. To take measures before things get worse, here are some tips to identify abuse in a relationship.

2/6

Over protectiveness

Being protective of your partner is completely fine but crossing the line is a big NO. You may notice that your partner tries to keep track of what you do throughout the day and tries to keep you from making independent decisions. They will try to convince you that they are just trying to protect you from bad decisions and evil people, in the name of love.

3/6

Socially isolated

Being an introvert and a socially isolated person are two different things. If your partner refuses to mingle with others and stops you from hanging out with other people, then chances are high that they belong to the latter group. A socially isolated person will show no efforts of talking to other people and would want you only to themselves.

4/6

Restrict resources

Restricting off your friends, your phone, changing your social media passwords etc. are signs your partner doesn’t trust you and wants to control your life altogether. This is a type of emotional abuse that’s almost unrecognisable. Controlling your activities is something your partner should never do.

5/6

Physical abuse

Harming you physically or giving punishment is a major red flag that indicates your partner is an abuser. If while being angry, they inflict anger or pain upon you, then it’s an evident sign that you should immediately take steps for your safety.

6/6

Acting as if everything is normal

After such drastic steps, if your partner calms down and acts as if nothing happened, then you need to rethink your decision of staying in the relationship. Additionally, you may also notice that their love for you has increased in the meantime without even apologising.
