Viral ‘green line’ relationship test: Does the way a couple stand next to each other really giveaway a lot about their relationship?

What's the viral trend of green line test all about?

A viral trend has been making rounds on the internet which can apparently depict the dynamics of a couple’s relationship using the ‘green line test.’ The way a couple stands, close to one another, leaving against one another or simply standing straight can tell a lot about the relationship. This theory was first developed by Twitter user, @alpharivelino. Let’s understand what this ‘green line’ test is more about.

2/5

What is the green line test?

A couple’s picture is analysed by drawing a straight green line over their posture to determine which one of them is sitting straight and which one is leaning towards the other. And it is widely analysed that the person who sits straight has more power in the relationship, and is superior and dominant. The one who leans toward their partner is the dependent, inferior and soft-hearted one in the relationship.

What the theory says

Twitter user, @alpharivelino says that in most pictures, the man is leaning towards the woman, and this is a sign that he is needy, inferior and emotionally dependent on the woman. Whereas, the woman stands straight radiating power and independence. She is confident and strong, not weak.

What an expert thinks

No matter how convincing this theory may sound, it is in fact, not validating enough. And to comment on it, Mental wellness and relationship expert Dr Rachna Khanna Singh says, "This is not a valid theory. Your partner leaning onto you doesn't make them weak. Today, we talk about equality in a relationship, and women encourage men to express emotions. Photographs, especially of celebrities, are not always natural. Body language can indicate the quality of a relationship, but a single photograph isn't enough."

5/5

Can this theory analyse relationships correctly?

As opined by the relationship expert above, this theory can't validate the dynamics between a couple. Most tall men lean against their partners to bridge the gap between them. This cannot exactly determine a show of power in the relationship.
