How to stop thinking about your ex

Getting over a break-up is as it is a task that feels like a total challenge. It gets worse when you find out that your ex is seeing someone new while you have barely moved on from them. You've been missing them constantly but now you are trying to figure out a way how to stop thinking about your ex with someone else. These thoughts are extremely unhealthy and will take you nowhere if you don't stop thinking about them. So how do you do that? This guide will help you on how to stop thinking about your ex with someone else and how to get over them for good.

2/6

Sometimes your heart needs more time to accept what your mind already knows

If you are continually thinking about your ex with someone new, it means you still haven't gotten over them. This doesn't have to mean that you are still in love with them, but it means that you need more healing to do. Currently, you're in denial and it might seem that you can't come to terms with the fact that your ex has moved on happily. Firstly, you need to accept what it is - whether you like it or not, the person you once loved is no longer a part of your life. Let go of what it was - getting over your past will not happen overnight but you need to make an effort at it at least. Stop thinking about all the 'could haves' and 'should haves'. Don't keep replaying the same scenarios over and over in your head. Have faith in what will be - turn to the future. Focus on your plans and goals and soon, you will see a difference. Have faith that one day, all this pain will be behind you.

3/6

Your fear will become your limit if you don't face it

Once you accept what needs to be accepted, you need to start facing your fears. Accept the fact that your ex has moved on with someone new and start thinking of all the new things they might do with their new partner, all the places they might visit together. This will break your heart but it will also recover you once you're done imagining all sorts of things. After a point, you will become immune to these visualizations. It won't bother you as much.

4/6

Change your self-awareness to change the situation

Self-awareness is all about being entirely conscious of yourself at all times. Being better than anyone else, being in control of your feelings and thoughts. It won't help you erase the thoughts you don't like, but at least, you will be aware of everything going inside of you. The point of self-awareness is to recognize that your imaginations are not real. This way, you'll stop your thinking process before it floods you.

5/6

You become what you think

The reality around you is responsible for your mental images. Your mind has the power to create your world and if you keep thinking about your ex, trying to figure out how to stop thinking about them with someone else, your breakup and grief start to define you. At this point, you need to start shifting your thoughts. The moment you find yourself thinking about your ex, stop right there, look at the first thing you notice around you and start observing the details. What's important is to be present at the moment. Turn on all of your five senses. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? Before you know it, your thoughts will drift away as far as possible.

6/6

They gave you the scissors, cut them off

'Out of sight, out of mind' is definitely a true saying and it works if you let it. Your past is called the past for a reason. Your ex decided to part ways with you and it's time to cut this person out of your life for good. Break all ties, stop stalking them on social media, stop talking to the people they are friends with, live in the moment, be more self-aware.
