The Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita is a sacred Hindu scripture with 700-verses and it is a part of the epic Mahabharata. The Bhagavad Gita presents the conversation between Arjun, who is in a moral dilemma of battling his own cousins, and Shri Krishna, who through his wise words imparts knowledge to Arjun. The Bhagavad Gita is a timeless holy text that is relevant even in today's times and it teaches one how to live a balanced and fulfilling life.

Here we list some timeless lessons from the Bhagavad Gita on the art of balancing relationships and expectations, and being happy. Read on to know more.

2/6

Practice selflessness in your relationships

One of the famous quotes of Shri Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita is, "Karma kar, phal ki ichha mat kar" which teaches one to focus on their duty without expecting a profitable result. When this lesson is applied to relationships, it teaches one to be selfless and be kind to others, without expecting to get anything in return. It also teaches us to focus on our duty and service to others, instead of getting any personal gains. This will contribute to our overall happiness.

3/6

Be compassionate with others

Be empathetic and kind towards others. Instead of judging them for what they say or do, try to be kind and understand their point of view. And in conflict situations, be soft on the person and tough on the problem. Being compassionate towards others will help build healthy relationships.

4/6

Regularly practice self-reflection

Reflect on upon your actions and behaviour regularly. This will help you be more aware of yourself, which will, in turn, improve your relationships. Being self-aware is a crucial step for building a healthy relationship with others.

5/6

Practice detachment in your relationships

Instead of expecting others to behave a certain way, practice compassion and detachment in your relationships. Let go of expectations and accept people as they are. This will prevent you from being disappointed in relationships.

6/6

Practice equanimity

Try to stay calm and composed at all times. A calm mind often leads to better decisions and results, rather than jumping to conclusions. Staying balanced when being praised and even being criticised is a super-power. Remember, do not let your emotions overpower you as these could lead to poor judgments and decisions, especially when it is about matters of the heart.
