You cannot miss out on these shows and movies

Gone are the days when movies revolved just around men and patriarchy. Today, we have some amazing cinema being made on women. Different kinds of roles are being explored with some fictional and some non-fictional. So this Women’s Day 2022, we bring to you a list of some amazing women-centric shows and movies available on OTT platforms that cannot be missed. Some of them are about to be released.

SHE

This show is among the top 10 most watched shows on Netflix. It is a story of an undercover cop as a sex worker essayed by Aditi Pohankar. This Imtiaz Ali series depicts the role of women on how they assert authority on people who try to oppress them.

Dhaakad

Scheduled to release on April 8, 2022, the movie Dhaakad will have Kangana Ranaut essaying the lead role of an Agent. She dawns an all black look with guns and weapons in the posters and looks released so far. Till date we have had men playing agents so we look forward to Kangana pulling off the role.

This movie on Zee5 stars Neena Gupta, Sakshi Tanwar and Manoj Bajpayee in very prominent roles. This thriller is unmissable as Gupta and Tanwar’s performance along with Bajpayee takes you on a roller coaster ride you want to be a part of.

Geeli Puchhi

This show is a part of Ajeeb Daastaans where two women hailing from different backgrounds expose our society’s deep-rooted prejudices.It emphasizes on a strong female character that talks about the workplace casteism. This is Neeraj Ghaywan’s project starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Aditi Rao Hydari. You can watch this show on Netflix.

Bombay Begums

Starring Pooja Bhatt, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur and Shahana Goswami, Bombay Begums, is about a group of strong women who want to and work on carving out their own path in Mumbai’s patriarchal society. They are progressing in personal and their respective professional lives but as they do so, the old cultural traditions and misogyny throws enough hurdles that these begums intend on fighting off. You can watch this show on Netflix.

Aarya

How can we miss out on Sushmita Sen’s brilliant comeback! This show is inspired by Penoza, a Dutch show. The web series keeps us glued until the end with a mind blowing portrayal of Aarya by Sushmita. The series shows the story of a woman who is forced into her family’s shady business. How she takes command of all situations is so convincing thanks to Sushmita and the strong character that she plays.

Girls Hostel

This show available on TVF is about four girls hailing from different backgrounds who become friends when they move to the same hostel. It is a light hearted series which addresses issues like eve-teasing and bullying and then you realise that it is not so light hearted, making it a serious watch.

Leila

This show is on Netflix and it revolves around a mother who has lost her child and is in a soup, essayed by Huma Qureshi. It stars a slew of actors like Arif Zakaria, Rahul Khanna, Siddharth, Adarsh Gourav, Sanjay Suri and Seema Biswas.

Pagglait

This is a social drama by Umesh Bist which narrates and highlights the condition of a young widow and how her family forces to remarry. She has her own dreams and goals that she wants to achieve. It also shows how her in-laws throw a fit when their son’s insurance papers give authority to the protagonist and the courage to run her own house.
