Veteran Bollywood actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini's elder daughter Esha Deol married businessman Bharat Takhtani on June 19, 2012. But the couple recently announced that after almost 12 years of marriage and two kids together, they have decided to part ways. ""We have mutually and amicably decided to part ways. Through this shift in our lives, the best interests and welfare of our two children is and will be of utmost importance to us. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected throughout," read their statement. The news of their separation has taken many people by surprise.

While rumours of Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik's divorce had been doing rounds for many months, what came as a shock to many was Shoaib's wedding pictures with Pakistani TV actress Sana Javed in January 2024. This was followed by a statement by her father to PTI, wherein he revealed that Sania had given a unilateral divorce or Khula (in Islam) to Shoaib a few months back. The news of ace Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and former Pakistani cricket captain Shoaib Malik's divorce shocked many people. The former couple were married for 13 years and they have a son named Izhaan Mirza Malik together.

Music band Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean and his wife Rochelle DeAnna McLean announced their divorce after 11 years of marriage on January 1, 2024. "As you all know we have been separated for over a year now... While we have hoped for reconciliation we have decided to officially end our marriage. It is with deep love and respect that we have made this decision. Our focus now is moving forward in the healthiest way possible with friendship and co-parenting our girls at the forefront of this next chapter. We appreciate your kindness, respect, and privacy at this time," Rochelle DeAnna McLean shared in an Instagram post.

Indian TV actress Shubhangi Atre, best-known for her role in 'Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain', announced her separation with her husband Piyush Poorey in 2022 after 19 years of marriage. While the couple is separated for roughly two years now, they aren't filing for a divorce for the 'sake of their daughter', as per reports in January 2024.

TV actress Dalljiet Kaur married businessman Nikhil Patel in March 2023 and moved to Kenya. But now less than a year later, rumours are rife that the couple is heading for separation. The reason: Both Dalljiet Kaur and Nikhil Patel have removed pictures of each other from their social media profiles, and Dalljiet Kaur also removed Nikhil's surname from her profile name.

It is noted that this was a second marriage for both Dalljiet Kaur and Nikhil Patel. While Dalljiet has a son from her previous marriage, Nikhil is a father of two daughters. They don't have any kids together.

Commenting on the rumours of their separation, Dalljiet Kaur's spokesperson’s shared a statement on her behalf. It read, “I hereby state that Dalljiet and Jaydon are in India currently for Dalljiets dad’s surgery followed by her Maa's surgery as well, which required them to be beside him...in addition to this I would only like to say that Dalljiet at the moment would not like to make any comments on anything because the kids are in the picture. Please respect her kids’ privacy and please consider this as the only statement she would like to give out.”

According to a new study which was published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health, women are more impacted than men and deal with more mental health issues because of divorces or break-ups. The study examined the use of antidepressants among men and women who were going through different kinds of separations-- like break-up, death, or divorce. The research examined Finnish residents between 1996 to 2018, who went through any kind of separation between the years 2000 and 2014 and were aged between 50 to 70 years.
