Expert tips on how to get over your ex!

These expert tips may put you out of misery

Breakups. The thing that shakes us to our very core. Some of us see it coming while others are completely blindsided. Yet, no matter how it happens the pain that follows is like walking around with a pit in your stomach. And, while some of us wallow while others try to mask the pain, it's all and all, traumatizing. Here are a few tips rolled out by relationship expert Shahzeen Shivdasani, to help you move on from your breakup and most importantly, your ex.

2/6

NO contact rule!

Do not contact them! Breaking up with someone is like starting over and as much as it is difficult to, the more you delay the process the harder it will be to do so. By not contacting them you are giving yourself a chance to be alone and examine your next step. And, while it is a truly scary thought, you have to face it. The only way to start over is by letting that part of your life go.

3/6

It's okay to be lost

When you cut the person off, you are bound to feel completely lost within yourself. After all, it was a big part of your life. Shared friends, memories, and building castles in the sky for your future aren't easy things to move on from. However, don’t put so much pressure on yourself to figure out your next move or where life should go from here. Take it one day at a time and focus on healing. Life has a funny way of unraveling opportunities for you and steering you on to the next path. Trust the process.

4/6

Reconnect with friends

If you have already spent a month eating a tub of ice cream and venting to your besties, eventually you will want to get up and do something new. Reconnect with friends you haven’t seen in a while, make new ones or plan something fun with your existing ones. Take the effort to dress up and put yourself out there again. You don’t necessarily have to be ready to date again. But, at least allow yourself the opportunity to find an evening exciting again with whomever it is spent with.

5/6

Do NOT stalk them on social media

In the process of healing and trying to find a new path for yourself, cut all ties with your old one by not stalking their social media. You probably will find something that will trigger you because secretly you are looking for something to trigger you by wanting to know how they are doing without you. However, this is none of your business anymore. Your business is focusing every day on how you can add positivity back to your life.

6/6

Food and exercise

Exercising just makes you feel good. Sometimes we don’t even realize the benefits of it, but if you actually stopped to see your mood right after a workout, you would realize that you feel more confident and better about life. It releases endorphins and boosts your energy levels. If you are not ready to do this in the initial stages, that's understandable. However, when you are feeling a bit better push yourself too!

Moving on from an ex is not easy. I want you to also know that there is no set time on how fast this has to be achieved. Most importantly, remember that the feeling of pain will come in waves but eventually it will get better.

The thing about time is that it takes time.
