Find out why people forgive their cheating partner

Link to the poll

Life changes drastically after an affair. The person who gets cheated on, goes through a lot of pain, hurt and betrayal; they can’t trust their partner anymore. The one who cheats feels undeniable guilt settling within them, no matter the circumstances. A poll by ETimes Lifestyle interestingly revealed that 31% people would forgive a cheating partner. Let’s decode the possible reasons behind this.

2/6

A second chance

Many people believe in giving others a second chance. Even if their partner ends up cheating on them, they don’t believe in letting go, without giving their cheating partner another chance at redemption. They believe, if given another chance, their partner can rectify their mistake and be a much better person than they were, previously.

3/6

Family

Many people also believe in forgiving their partner for this mistake, because they have a family and children to raise together. The one who gets cheated on, makes the most difficult decision of their life to stay with their partner, even after their disastrous blunder, only so that their children do not have to face the brunt of living in a divorced household or parents.

4/6

Chance at professional help

Many people subconsciously want to forgive their cheating partner, but an inward, conflicted feeling within them stops them from doing so. At this time, professional marriage counsellors or therapists provide an effective solution.

5/6

Revenge

According to the poll, around 30% of people were up for getting back at their partner for cheating on them. This may be another reason why many people want to give their partner a second chance so that they can hurt them the same way their partner did. This negative emotion of revenge will get one nowhere, as there’s only hurt and pain ahead.

6/6

Forgiving isn’t for everyone

The other 69% of people who voted against forgiving their partner, represent another section of people who can’t forgive their partner for hurting them. Cheating on your partner with someone isn’t just some mistake; it destroys the relationship and leaves no space for the person to trust again. This is when separation or divorce enters the picture.
