Early signs to detect an abusive partner

There’s no denying that mental or physical abuse leaves a scar behind. Going through such trauma can be extremely distressing and hurtful. It makes a person succumb to their fears and makes them feel as if they are undeserving of love. Detecting the signs of an abusive partner is the first necessary step to get out of an abusive relationship. Hence, here are some very noticeable signs one should definitely pay heed to.

2/6

Possessiveness

If your partner has been showing signs of extreme possessiveness, then you quickly need to reconsider your relationship with them. This means they don’t trust you and don’t want you to talk to someone they don’t approve of. Your partner may feel extremely jealous and also attempt to isolate you from others so that you can only spend time with them.

3/6

Disrespecting boundaries

Your partner may try disrespecting you and go against the normal boundaries you have kept in the relationship. Boundaries are extremely necessary to allow both individuals to grow and have healthy space. However, if your partner is persistent and stubborn about discrediting your boundaries, then chances are high that they might get abusive later on.

4/6

Control

Your partner will display utmost control over you and your actions. Despite your subtle protests, they will try to manipulate several aspects of your life and relationships such as finances, emotions, mental state, etc. Your partner may consider you incapable of making decisions by yourself. Controlling you is also a sign that they are very jealous and skeptical of you.

5/6

Aggression

Your partner may not physically touch you to be aggressive but their actions suggest otherwise. Aggressive gestures like smashing or throwing things, punching walls, stern look, etc. are a strong indication that your partner doesn’t know how to handle their anger. And such anger issues can be destructive for your mental health.

6/6

Being secretive and ignorant

They will tend to display very eerie behavior when you ask them where they have been all day. Such a secretive attitude only means that they do not wish to tell you what they have been doing. Besides the immense distrust, they will also ignore you when you need them. Calls, text, nothing works when you want their presence beside you. And so, it is obvious that they don’t care for you enough and view you as a vessel to vent out their frustrations.
