What do you think about this?

This is a universal question in relationships that leaves people puzzled and confused. While love is said to be blind, there are people who chose their partner based on looks and appearance. When it comes to long-term relationships, looks do not matter but what happens when someone chooses their partner based purely on physical attraction? To know what different types of people think, we asked 5 people who belong to different occupations and are in different phases of life—whether looks matter in a relationship or not. Here’s what they said.

Initially, looks are what matters

“Looks do matter. In the beginning, that is what you are attracted to. The first thing you see is how they look, how their smile is etc. You don’t just get to know about their personality at the first sight. I was first attracted to my husband because he look uber cool and charming at that time. It was his looks that drew me in.”

Anusha, PR

Online dating game is all about looks

“In the beginning when dating apps came into the scene, it was all about looks. The most handsome boys were the ones who got the highest number of likes and matches and the ones who were average or below par didn’t get that big of a chance. So yes, no matter how much one says looks do matter.”

Rahul, System analyst

Looks won’t sustain a relationship later

“When you are in a relationship, looks don’t matter. You become so comfortable being with the person that their looks are not what binds you to the relationship. Your bond becomes much stronger when your partner is attracted to your personality. 20 years down the line, looks don’t matter at all.”

Seema, Homemaker

Love is blind, but it is preachy

“The number of people who preach that love is blind are the ones who love or marry a person for their looks. It is absolute nonsense when people say that looks never matter. I had a woman reject me because, for her, I was a ‘bit dark.’ As atrocious as that sounds, I settled into the idea that people like them exist and I have to deal with that.”

Atulya, Doctor

6/6

It’s all about perspective

“How you look at a person and the relationship tells a lot about your perspective. Some have no problem admitting that physical attraction is more important than emotional attraction while there are some people who solely look for their partner based on personality and similarity. So for some looks matter, for others, it doesn’t.”

Warsha, Psychologist

Between looks and charm it is the latter that matters.
