Confessions of men who were rejected when they proposed

Here's what happened

Not all men are lucky when it comes to popping the question to the woman they love. This may be the reason why they perhaps run away from commitment as they have this fear of rejection. With Valentine's love in the air, we spoke to some men and here are some anonymous confessions of men who were rejected when they proposed.

2/5

She loved someone else

We were in a serious relationship for 3 years and I thought we should be taking the next step, high time. I made this whole arrangement at a friend’s farm by giving it the FRIENDS TV show theme as she loved that show and bought her princess-cut diamond ring, something she would keep looking at on websites but skipped it. When I asked her to marry me, she started crying and told me that she had fallen in love with someone else and had come over to break up with me. It tore me to pieces and completely lost trust in the institution of love. It was after 5 years that I met someone I could feel secure with.

She wanted me to leave my parents

It is fine and justified that she wanted to live separately after marriage but when I proposed to her, she gave me a list of things that she wanted me to agree to before she said yes. I was okay with all because they seemed fair like we must go out once a week, travel together, etc but when she said she wants to live in another house without my parents there, I could not bring myself to agree because they are my parents and I am Indian boy with a different culture altogether. So she said NO and left me. It took me a few months and then I asked my parents to find me the girl of their choice.

4/5

She accused me of being a mama’s boy

We had been together since college so we were in a relationship for 8 years when I finally thought since we are settled with good jobs it is time we go a step ahead. But when I knelt down in the middle of her favourite shopping area and popped the question, she took a few steps back and I went numb. I still remember that day when I felt so lost and listless. She rejected me because I was a “mama’s boy” and it was annoying. At first, I thought she was joking because she knew me for 8 long years, we grew up together… It was the most painful day of my life. She married someone else right after 2 months and it was an arranged marriage. Sometimes I think she was with me because of convenience. I began hating her, then I hated myself. I asked my friends if they noticed the red flags but they were all clueless.

She was pregnant with another’s kid

It was all good and we were ready to take the plunge, but when the moment came, I involved my parents and asked her to marry me, she said no because she was not ready to settle. I wanted closure because I just could not figure out the real reason as she was all for it just a few months back. Then, she told me that she had cheated on me with a one-night stand and that she was pregnant with that guy’s kid. She had found out just a week back. I told her we can have that kid together, and get married quickly so no one suspects. But she was unsure. She walked out and asked her parents to get her married to the next person they found for her within 2 weeks.
