6 honest reasons why people cheat

Cheating is widely condemned in relationships and it is essential to understand the underlying reasons behind this behaviour. There are certain underlying reasons that drive individuals to betray their partners' trust. From dissatisfaction within the relationship to other possibilities like revenge, boredom etc., there exists a multitude of factors which can contribute to infidelity.

2/7

Boredom

When people in a relationship experience periods of boredom or a sense of monotony, they tend to look for newness and thrill outside the relationship. Boredom can lead individuals to seek external validation and love. They may perceive an affair as an escape from the mundane routine and an opportunity to recapture the excitement they believe is missing in their current relationship.

3/7

Revenge

People may cheat as an act of revenge or retaliation for wrongdoing by their partner. This can be an attempt to regain power or inflict emotional pain. They may seek revenge for betrayal or mistreatment by their partner. The underlying purpose behind such unfaithfulness is the desire to hurt the other person as they have been hurt, and seek their revenge. This may provide them a sense of satisfaction.

4/7

Neglect or unhappiness

A general sense of unhappiness with the overall relationship can lead to partners cheating. It could be due to issues such as a lack of shared interests, or growing apart over time which ultimately leads to neglect. When a partner feels neglected in a relationship, they might indulge in unfaithful practices to feel wanted, loved and important again. People with low self-esteem may want to seek validation from others. Cheating might provide a temporary ego boost or make them feel desired and attractive.

5/7

Easy way to end the relationship

When someone is unhappy or dissatisfied in a relationship but finds it difficult to confront the challenges and make the decision to end it directly, they may seek an easier way out through cheating. Sometimes a partner falls out of love but is afraid of confronting as they may end up hurting the other partner. In such cases, they may consider cheating as an easy option to end the relationship.

6/7

Lack of emotional connection

Sometimes, partners feel emotionally disconnected from their partner. If a person feels emotionally neglected or ignored by their partner, they may seek emotional support, understanding, and validation from someone outside the relationship. In such cases, it is the emotional connection they crave which leads to them to cheat on their partner.

7/7

Lack of physical intimacy

Intimacy plays a vital role in relationships, and when one partner's sexual needs are consistently unmet, it can create frustration and temptation. Sexual dissatisfaction or lack of physical intimacy within a relationship can be a driving factor for infidelity. Some individuals may seek sexual pleasure or explore their desires outside the relationship when they feel unfulfilled or unsatisfied in the bedroom.
