5 most common mistakes all newlywed couples make

Don't make these mistakes

No one really gets well-prepared for dealing with the realities in a marriage, no matter how many people have given us a heads up on different nuances. All couples make mistakes and they learn together with time but there are very common mistakes that are made and not given a thought to especially by the newlyweds. So here is a list of 5 most common mistakes that can be learnt from.

2/6

Establishing boundaries

Your personal boundaries are different from the ones we are about to talk about. Here it is about drawing the line with friends and family. It is no longer about 'me and mine' but more of 'us and we'. Both of you have to set boundaries where your family needs to accept that you may choose to spend holidays with the in-laws or just by yourselves. There will also be an automatic change in the role of friends; they will have lesser say in your decisions now.

3/6

Accept that your partner can still make mistakes

To think and expect that your partner shall make no mistakes post-marriage is wrong and unfair. The scenario of life has changed for the both of you, equally! You both will grow and change with time because you are humans. Give room for mistakes and learn together.

4/6

Don’t forget your friends and individual families

Yes you must draw a line but that does not mean that you forget your friends and family entirely, especially for your own sanity. You should have days when you hang out just with friends, have a girls day out or a boys day out, a gaming day, or call over friends for a card night or a movie etc. Encourage your spouse to do the same, spend time with his/her friends with or without you otherwise you both will suffocate and become clingy. In many cases, this leads to frustrations which could have been easily avoided.

5/6

Toiletry sharing

This may seem like a small thing because you are moving in together so you will share a toothpaste but this may become an issue later. How? Well, if after sometime down the line either of you forget to screw the cap of the paste and it dries up, one of you will indeed get agitated. Sometimes the sharing is fine but if you use the same things everyday where one uses a small amount and the other uses a lot and the bottle is over too soon, fights would happen. So the best is to either make sure that you both are careful or simply have a his and her plate with an individual set of creams and serum etc.

6/6

Not merging your home decor

When we live on our own we have our own style of arranging and decorating our home but when another comes in, it is important that he/she redecorates on a common ground. The one leaving his/her own house is uprooting from their style so to let them feel at home in the new home too, let something be hers or his only. Be it the cushion covers, curtains or wall paintings, etc. You must feel at home. So renovate your room or home together and merge the two individuals.
