Try these financial & relationship tips
Our grandparents did not have internet, phones, social media, and this much exposure but they sure had some amazing experiences that we all can learn something from. They are not just blurting out words when they talk. They give us lessons that we should be smart enough to imbibe in our own lives. Here are 4 tips that my grandfather gave me and they worked for me to a great extent.
Don’t burn bridges
My grandfather once sat me down when I had just finished college, that make sure you never burn bridges with people because the world is certainly smaller than we think. He told me that I do not have to play best friends, but just always keep it cordial whether I like it or not. One never knows when we may encounter them again and what situations we will be in. It did work for me because a classmate I never liked turned out to be my boss. Thankfully I never let him know my true feelings and during appraisals, he treated me right. It was one eye-opening lesson for me.
Save money!
This is one of my favorite pieces of advice and it helped me buy my own flat at 35. I had begun working at 21 and my grandfather taught me how to save. He made me open a PPF, SIP and forced me to save a certain some of money in another account which I should never touch. He passed away when was just 25, but I stuck to what he had advised. My own dad was impressed and today, I was able to buy my own flat, my very own property in a good locality just because of this.
Tame your language no matter what
My grandmother passed away early due to health issues but I was told by my grandfather that they had a beautiful relationship. He told me that whenever I get married or find that person I want to be with, no matter how angry I get, never have screaming fights with her or else a divorce or breakup will be the next step or happen soon. He told me that people often cross all boundaries and have yelling matches which makes both parties lose respect for the other and eventually there is nothing left between them.
Never wash dirty laundry in public
I thought my grandfather was a private person so he asked me never to wash my dirty laundry in public but today, I agree with him and I am glad I listened to him. Telling everyone everything, even if they are your best friend or family, is a stupid mistake. Everyone does not have to be privy to every incident, or secret in your life. Also, people have a habit of hitting you below the belt with your secrets whenever a major problem crops up.
