Do dating apps make it easier to have casual sex? A study has found the answer!

Dating apps

It might be easy to find new people and chat with them on dating apps, and even go on a date. There is a common perception that a lot of people use dating apps to approach others for casual sex. But is it true? Well, a study seems to have found the answer.

2/6

The study

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology surveyed adults aged between 18 and 39 years and asked them questions related to their sexual habits. The researchers analysed the data gathered and found out the app users were interested in casual sex and hook-ups. But interestingly, the findings did not indicate that the users were getting what they wanted.

3/6

Myth busted

The study concluded that online daters did not have more sexual partners than others who didn’t rely on dating apps for casual hook-ups. In fact, participants who were using dating apps reportedly had a higher level of ‘sociosexual orientation’—the greater interest in sex-based relationships.

4/6

Men or women: who spends more time on dating apps?

The survey also concluded that women spent more time on the dating apps and gave special attention to the profiles. On the other hand, guys accepted or declined an online match without taking much time to read someone’s profile.

5/6

Men are more eager

According to the research, men took the first initiative to text their match and start an online conversation. Also, they were more willing to meet their online match in a ‘private setting’.

6/6

The tip

The study might be a bummer for people looking for hook-ups online but it did doll out an important online dating tip. According to experts, people should look for meaningful relationships outside the online world and use dating apps with the right intention and not just for fun.
