6 reasons why you can have your ‘happily ever after’ even without being married

Why it’s okay to not get married ever…

We all grow up fantasising about finding true love, marrying the perfect partner, and leading a happily-ever-after life. Thanks to our Indian society and the uber-romantic Bollywood films, the concept of marriage is drilled into our minds since our childhood . But we need to understand and accept that one can lead a happy life without tying the knot because the road to happiness need not have a final destination called marriage. Here’s why you can be happily 'unmarried' forever…

2/7

Not everyone needs a partner

Someone has rightly said, "Being single is not the opposite of commitment. It is the deep understanding of the fact that you don’t want to be committed yet." Not everyone needs a ‘partner’ to feel happy and content in life. In fact, life without marriage can be liberating and gratifying if we learn to handle societal pressure to find happiness through marriage.

You can have a family even without being married

It goes without saying that to start a family, a person needs to get married. It is a convenient way to connect biological necessity with societal norms. Imagine, you are married to the wrong person and always end up fighting in front of the kids. Such a situation will surely leave an adverse affect on the child. What we need to understand is when we start a family, our first priority should be to provide love, care and attention to the children so that they have a happy childhood. Like we said before, one does not necessarily need to be married to lead a happy life. For example, Bollywood celebs including Sushmita Sen, Karan Johar, Tusshar Kapoor have beautiful families, and are happily single.

For those carefree souls...

If you are one of those who love their independence, marriage might not be the right choice for you if you do not like to make adjustments or compromises. Marriage is not just a relationship but a lifestyle! Being married, your decisions also impact the life of your partner. You might have to think twice before planning those instant travel plans, moving out of the city, or even something as simple as meeting your friends. It will be difficult for such a person to find his or her 'happily ever after' under such circumstances.

5/7

You can feel lonely even after marriage

Who says marriage is an assurance of having an emotional support always? One can feel the emotional void even after being married, or feel troubled with their partner’s emotional baggage. On the other hand, one can be single and have a great emotional support from family and friends always.

6/7

Moving in together

There’s a growing trend where couples move in together even when marriage might not be on the cards. Is there a rulebook that proclaims it is unethical, eh? Some people might consider marriage as just a formality. For a few marriage is a happy pretense they need to put up in front of family and friends. Who knows what the future holds, right?

7/7

Friends and family

Once you have had your own share of relationships, you might come to a conclusion that friends and family are as important as finding the right partner. Friends and family are forever but sometimes even 'forever' might fall short when we set forth to find the right partner. You might not feel the need to get hitched if you have amazing friends and family who stand by your side through thick and thin.
