Happy Siblings Day

Today is Siblings' day. Yes, finally a day dedicated to the love and sometimes hate relationship that we share with our siblings. From fighting with each other for the same set of toys to growing up to be each other’s confidant, siblings are special in ways beyond words.

2/9

Celebrating the unique bond!

From plotting against the common enemy to having each other’s back, no matter what happens, there is no bond as beautiful and unique as the one you share with your sibling. In fact, there is no other relationship which is the epitome of being best friends and mortal enemies at the same time.

To celebrate the spirit of this day, we are listing down some really incredible facts about siblings. Read along because we are sure that you will agree.

3/9

Older siblings are a little smarter than the younger ones

Sorry, younger siblings, this round goes to the firstborns. Several studies point towards the fact that it is quite possible that older siblings have a better IQ than the younger ones. One reason for the same could be the fact that the firstborns try harder to be a perfect role model for their younger siblings which results in clarity of concepts.

4/9

Your parents DO have a favourite child

Yes, even though your parents seem to claim otherwise, they actually have a favourite amongst the siblings. In a research published in the Journal of Family Psychology, parents have let on a big secret---they do have a favourite child. Although they did not divulge who the favourite one was, do you think you can take a guess?

5/9

Younger siblings might be more extroverted

A study conducted by the Leiden University in the Netherlands found that the younger siblings were much more likely to be extroverts by nature. No, we are not kidding.

6/9

Sisters actually protect you from feeling lonely

If you have a sister, hug her or give her a call right now and thank her for her existence. Apparently sisters, irrespective of their age, actually prevent you from feeling down and out or even lonely. The study conducted by Brigham Young University asserts the fact that sisters protect you and prevent you from feeling sad.

7/9

If parents fight a lot, the sibling bond grows stronger

Since children usually look up to their parents as protectors, it is only natural that they hold onto each other if parents actually fight a lot. Especially in the case of divorced parents or worse abusive parents, siblings have a tendency to lean onto and protect each other.

8/9

You are less likely to get divorced if you have a sibling

Another good news! If you have a sibling (or more), it actually reduces the chances of getting divorced. No, we are not kidding. A study by Ohio State University claimed that the more the siblings, the greater your chances of handling conflicts and understanding the dynamics of relationships. This ultimately results in cutting down the chances of getting divorced in future by up to 7 per cent per sibling.

9/9

Siblings fight is actually REALLY natural

Last but not the least, the dreaded fights that you have with your siblings are actually really normal. It is commonplace and an everyday part of a family. From competition to jealousy, the reason can be multifold, but be rest assured that it is pretty normal.
