Things your dad said in your childhood which make sense now

“Be a good person first, everything else will fall into place”

As a kid, we have heard our dad say this often. Every time we did something wrong, we would be told this line. Several times this would annoy us because we never understood what a good person is and why is it important to be good. Only after we grew up, stepped out of our comfort and started making our own livelihood we have learned how necessary it is to be a good person. Being good and generous amplifies positivity in our mentality.

2/8

“Never ever adopt dishonest ways, no matter how easy they look”

We always look for easier ways to get things done. Sometimes we are so keen on getting our job done that we ignore the red flags of dishonesty. This is how we get introduced to the temporary warmth of unfair means. As small child, we never understood why dads used to correct us. Again, at times it used to irritate us. But now as grownups, we realize how troublesome dishonesty can be.

3/8

“Hard work never goes in vain”

When we used to sleep till late in the morning, dads used to tell us this! At that time it seemed like poison to us, now we realise it was an elixir in disguise. Hard work never disappoints. It amplifies our abilities, makes us know our limits, and is always rewarding.

4/8

“Accept your mistakes, do not cover them up with excuses”

There is one thing a father always tries to teach his kids; either by anger or by love. Admitting to one’s mistake does not make a person less. Instead, it makes the person realize what went wrong and what can be done to improve.

5/8

Never stop learning

As kids we would hate being asked questions related to general knowledge; because we were unable to answer them and were scolded for the same. Dads have always told us to not stop learning and have been our role models in this. We wake up and see our dads reading a newspaper or a book and sipping a cup of tea simultaneously. The idea of keeping the learning process alive and holistic throughout the life mostly comes from our parents.

6/8

“Never doubt yourself”

If there is anyone who is confident of our abilities more than us, it is our father. Dads have always told us to not have self-doubts. These words never meant anything to us, during our student days because we were yet to face the tough world which always throws us into situations that make us question ourselves. Now, this statement by fathers makes sense.

7/8

“Learn to manage your finance”

Oh, as a kid this was the most dreaded statement our dad said! Even when we bought a toy and broke it the next day we were told of finance, when we scored less in exams we were reminded of the school fees, and especially when we asked for something expensive the entire family budget was presented before us. But now, when we are managing our own expenses we deliberately cut down our purchases. Thanks to dads for teaching us the value of money and the importance of finance management.

8/8

They speak less, but their words remain with us

Dads are emotionally invested in a different way than moms are invested in their children. We always see our dads with serious faces no smiles and always trying to correct us. Back in those days, it seemed torture to have to listen to dads. Sometimes we protested too. Sometimes we got scolded for being so, we got beaten for being a rebel. Gradually with time when we started carrying responsibilities we realized why he was so direct and straightforward.

How mobile game addiction is hurting your child

Thank you Dad!
