Time and tide waits for none

When the discussion is about time management, almost everyone's a failure. Despite the fact that time is one of the most valuable assets an individual can ever have, we waste time like there is more of it somewhere.

It is rightly said that time and tide waits for none. Therefore time management is crucial to understand and should be implemented from a very young age.

Parenting: Myths which have been passed down the generations without being questioned

Though kids will acquiesce lessons on time and time management, it will benefit them in the long run.

Time management and pre-planning helps students a lot

A 2021 research study on the impact of time management on the academic performance of students found that decreasing procrastination and increasing time management helped students.

The study found that among the high GPA holders, many agreed to make a diary and to-do list and put important dates on the calendar.

Several research studies have worked and found the importance of time management in overall growth and development of a child.

Here are 5 important time management skill you can teach your child:

3/7

Teach them that procrastination has helped none

Kids pick up habits from us, the elders. They often see us delaying our work making one excuse or the other.

Create an environment and tell your kids that procrastinating jobs has never helped anyone. Teach them the value of doing things on time and how a job done on time saves ample space for other things to be pursued.

4/7

Prepare a routine or a time table

This is the first baby step when teaching kids time management. Help them prepare a daily time table. Sit with them and make them understand how a time table should be. Explain to them the division of hours and how much time would they like to dedicate to each activity.

Draw a rough time table for them and then let them fix their own routine themselves.

5/7

Allocation of academics and non-academics

Just like all work, no play makes Jack a dull boy, all studies and no games makes a child inactive. It is very much essential to include physical activities and academics in the right proportion in the daily routine.

First of all, ask your child its preference like how much time would he or she like to dedicate to each of these activities. Then fix a routine with them.

Make sure the time table has equal spacing between two consecutive academic sessions and non-academic sessions.

6/7

Teach them how to update a calendar

Initially your kids might hate you for this, but this habit will definitely help them in the long run. Teach your child how to mark everything in a calendar so that nothing goes missing. From homework to daily chores, they should learn how to work as per time. For things that need to be done on a weekly basis, they should have a separate calendar nearly marked and updated for that.

7/7

Teach them smart work

Hard work never goes in vain, but when you are short on time try to find shortcut methods. Short cut techniques that would help get the job done would also save a lot of time for other activities. An opportunity that you could have seized today might be lost when you have pending work in hand.

Teach your child about doing things on time and how following a timetable helps achieve success one day at a time.
