6 things to keep at your home’s entrance as per Vastu

In Vastu Shastra according to popular beliefs, the prime entrance of the house is considered to be the energy gateway. It is also said to be the point where happiness, peace, and positive energy enter a house. To ward off bad energies and to allow good energies to enter a house, some symbolic things are kept at the entrance of the home. Here are the six things that should be placed at the home entrance as per Vastu:

2/7

Nameplate

A clear and well-maintained nameplate at the entrance is considered highly auspicious in Vastu. It helps positive energy identify the residents of the home. Ideally, the nameplate should be clean, readable, and made of wood, metal, or stone. A damaged or missing nameplate is believed to create confusion in energy flow and delay opportunities.

3/7

Swastika or Om Symbol

Keeping a Swastika or Om symbol near the main entrance is believed to have an attractive ability towards happiness and blessings of God. These marks symbolise harmony, shelter, and equality in nature. These marks are traditionally drawn through-vermillion, turmeric, or rice paste. Keeping these symbols in your home, according to Vastu, helps in making your surroundings clean by removing ill effects.

4/7

Toran or Bandhanwar

The toran, made from mango leaves, marigold flowers, or beads, is generally placed above the main entryway. As per Vastu, this toran works by diffusing all negative energies entering through it, so that what enters is totally positive. The natural torans are said to have better Vastu effects, but it can also be created artificially, provided it is taken good care of.

5/7

Doormat

A doormat is typically fixed just outside the main entrance and is a very important part of Vastu. This is mainly to ensure that the house is protected from the entrance of negative energy. A good and clean mat, in this case a doormat, acts as a symbol of blocking the entrance of unwanted energy.

6/7

Auspicious Plants

Keeping lucky plants such as Tulsi, money plant or jade plant near the entryway is also a good practice. Such plants are known to clean pollutants from the air as well as bring good fortune. According to Vastu, plants should be lush and well-cared-for. Dried-up or prickly plants near the main entryway are considered especially unwanted.

7/7

Proper Lighting

Good lighting at the main entrance is a crucial element in Vastu Shastra. A well-lit entrance to a house will bring positivity and auspiciousness to the house. Unlit areas near the entrance will invite negativity. Light fixtures that are broken or flickering will also require immediate replacement.

The main gate is not only an entry point but a very significant zone that greatly affects the energy in any given house. In order to achieve that, by maintaining straightforward yet significant objects such as the name plate, symbols, toran, plants, and lighting, you can achieve an environment that is positive and in harmony. Though Vastu methods are traditional ways, many people apply them in order to achieve peace and health.
