7 low-maintenance plants you can grow in water

In today’s fast-paced world, not everyone has the time, space, and patience for traditional soil gardening. The good news is that a number of plants do well in water and are perfect for indoor spaces, whether it's a small apartment or a space on your office desk or at home. The plants are easy to care for, look great in a glass container, and are perfect for a beginner or for those that want a beautiful plant without the hassle and mess that comes with soil gardening while also adding a refreshing touch of greenery to the surroundings.

Here are seven low-maintenance plants that grow beautifully in water.

Spider plants are hardy and adaptable. Their small offshoots, known as “pups,” root easily in water. Philodendron

Philodendrons can be used for water propagation, which is ideal for their growth in water. This plant can be propagated by placing a stem cutting in a jar, which will start to root within a short time. Philodendrons can be grown in medium to bright indirect light, making them easy to care for since they do not require much attention other than changing the water once a week. The plant has heart-shaped leaves, making it decorative for interior spaces.

Coleus

Coleus is known for its vibrant, colourful foliage. Cuttings root quickly in water and can remain there for extended periods. It prefers bright but indirect light to maintain its leaf colour. Changing water regularly prevents stagnation. Its striking leaves make it a lively decorative addition to windowsills and balconies.

English Ivy

English Ivy can be propagated by placing stem cuttings in water, which root easily. This plant requires little attention, such as changing the water and providing it with medium light. English Ivy can be grown in glass containers that can be hung, allowing the vines of the plant to hang down, making it decorative for interior spaces. The plant will continue to grow with constant care, making it ideal for interior spaces since it does not require soil for growth.

Growing plants in water is a great and mess-free way to add some greenery to your indoor space. Whether it is the ever-popular money plant, the beautiful and elegant peace lily, or the bright and beautiful coleus, there are a number of plants that are perfect for indoor spaces and are great for beginners and busy people alike, requiring only clean water and indirect sunlight to thrive.
