Increase the intake of this nutrient

Whether you are trying to shed kilos or manage weight, having nutrient-rich food is important. You might often hear people saying that to lose weight one should eat more protein and cut down carbs and fat. But while trying to manage the number of these macronutrients, we often forget about micronutrients, which is equally important to cut down the belly fat. As per a study, there is a particular micronutrient which plays a major role when it comes to reducing your waistline.

Vitamin to cut down belly fat

Turns out, vitamin D is not only important for your bones and teeth, it is also necessary for cutting down your belly fat. This astonishing revelation was made in a presentation at the European Society of Endocrinology meeting in Barcelona. The researchers suggested that people with a low intake of Vitamin D tend to have much more belly fat.

The study

For the study, the researchers tapped about 7,000 people in a Netherlands Epidemiology of Obesity. After closely observing the data, they came to the conclusion that people with the highest levels of abdominal fat had the lowest levels of vitamin D. The exact amount of vitamin D deficiency, which leads to a bulging belly was not determined by the study. But it clearly established the link between the two.

What other studies say

This was not the first time when Vitamin D intake and belly fat was linked with each other. Earlier, it was reported that increasing vitamin D intake may help eliminate belly fat. However, a lot more study is needed in this direction before making any solid claim. Till then there is no harm in keeping a track of your vitamin D level.

5/5

Other sources of Vitamin D

Sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D and nothing can replace it. However, there are some food items that contain a small amount of vitamin D. If you are not able to get enough nutrients from sunlight then try to include these foods in your diet.

Okra

Spinach

Soybeans

White beans

Fish like Sardines and Salmon
