Tips to control your craving

It’s not just the sweet tooth, but cravings can take your willpower over anytime, any day. The craving to have something fried on a Sunday morning or the wish to have something sweet after most meals, especially dinner, can turn your day around for the worse and end up breaking your resolve for a healthy body. But you'll be happy to know that you can battle this urge and win it over in just thirty seconds! Here are a few ways in which you can manage this victory.

2/4

Tap your cravings away

You might already be familiar with the few minutes’ walk, having a glass of water or chewing a gum for a brief interval so that you can forget all about the craving that is tugging at your taste buds but we have got something completely new for you! A thirty second intervention tactic that reduces cravings is to tap. No, we are not talking about tapping on your phone or tablets but your body parts- your forehead, or your toe on the floor. You can also stare at a wall or imagine smelling or eating certain foods. The intensity of your craving will definitely change after this thirty second intervention because they involve movement which engages more parts of the brain. Studies found forehead tapping to be the most effective of all.

Mentally battling the munchies

You can tweak your mind set instead of engaging in physical activities that engage your brain. If you simply think about the consequences that giving in to your cravings would bring about, you will definitely be distracted and dissuaded from trying to fulfil it. Wanting to have a brownie after dinner is something that a very few of us can resist. However, thinking about the blood glucose levels that it will disturb, and the excessive calories which will be added to your per day intake will help repel the craving instead of being taken down by it.The increased activity in regions controlling inhibitory regions of the brain will tone down your cravings effectively.

Will you benefit?

Even though the results that have been mentioned above are study based, there are still doubts as to whether these tests will work in real life because of the physical presence of tempting food items around you and cravings mostly being about these physically present delicacies. Scientists who have performed these tests are still skeptical about the effects and the time for which they would last. They also plan to test these tactics in conjunction with weight loss efforts by people to get a more accurate idea of its effectiveness in weight loss.

These studies were conducted on obese people and if you’re at healthy weight, then giving into cravings now and then is completely fine.
