Rules you must know for a healthy Navratri diet

For most of us, nine-day long Navratri fasting is only a religious practice. But what if we are told that the practice is more scientific in nature? As a matter of fact, we celebrate Navratris twice a year when the weather is witnessing a change. Changing climate often lowers our body’s immunity and this is why we fast – to keep our diet healthy and protect our body against infections. But there are some rules that we must follow to have a healthy fasting.

Have positive pranic foods

Ayurveda experts say that foods like onion, garlic and common salt attract and absorb negative energies and that is the reason they should be avoided during this time.

Increase your fluid intake

Keep yourself hydrated by having fluids like coconut water, lemon water, milk, and buttermilk besides water.

Avoid staying empty stomach for long

Try to avoid staying hungry for long hours as it can lead to acidity. You can munch on light snacks like roasted makhaanas and nuts.

​ Say no to a lot of fried stuff

Fasting may have you starved and Sabudana and aloo ki tikki may sound like a treat but it is best to avoid these due to the presence of excess oil in them. Healthier options like sabudana khichdi or kheer are much better.

Say yes to curd

Curd has a cooling effect on the body and also keeps the stomach healthy. You can add it to all your Navratri meals.

​ Go for samak rice

Samak rice, also known as jungle rice, is a popular fasting food. It offers quite the same nourishment and energy that rice does. Moreover, it is easy to digest and has fewer calories making it an ideal Navratri food.
