I followed the egg diet and lost weight! Here's how it happened

The egg diet

I love eating eggs but I never knew that there was actually a diet plan called 'egg diet plan', until I came across a post on Facebook. The deal of this plan was simple. I had to eat two eggs every day and consume very less or no carb at all.

2/10

Claims

At first, the 90’s kid in me warned me about the reports that claimed daily intake of eggs can increase your cholesterol. But then I decided to use all my knowledge and scanned numerous articles which spoke about the benefits of this diet.

3/10

Pros and cons

PROS AND CONS: Some of the pros of this diet were typically weight loss, fat loss, increased energy, better skin and hair and tighter or firmer body parts. The biggest con is that if you overdo it and eat too many eggs in a day, it can lead to serious indigestion and even produce excess heat in the body.

4/10

30 days

30 DAYS: So, I decided to try it and give my body 30 days. The other modification I made was exercising every day- six days a week- for a minimum of 20 minutes. If you are eating that much rich protein every day, your body needs to be able to digest it and use it as well. A protein-rich diet with no exercise will lead to accumulation of fat (said reports online).

The diet

My diet plan looked something like this:

Breakfast: Two boiled eggs or two egg white omelette or two egg bhurji with bowl of citrus fruits.

Lunch: Boiled vegetables and one glass of chaach

Dinner: Steamed chicken or fish or grilled paneer with stir-fried vegetables

Late night snack: One fruit or glass of milk with dried fruits

6/10

Similar to keto

SIMILAR TO KETO: What I realised over a period of time was that this egg diet was similar to a keto with very little or no carb at all along with high-fat content. While there was no explanation given on why I was only supposed to consume citrus fruits, I decided to include other fruit families like berries and apples as well.

7/10

Decreased cravings

DEVREASED CRAVINGS: In the first week, my cravings for fried snacks decreased. Since my job requires my creative conscious to be alert at all times, I felt hungry at regular intervals of time. But a big positive change was that in the first seven days itself, I stopped taking packeted food from the vending machine and felt somewhat full even after 2 hours of lunch.

8/10

Increase in energy

INCREASE IN ENERGY: In another 15 days, I felt my energy increasing. I didn’t feel drowsy after a stressed day at work or didn’t say no to working at home after office. Now, this may be due to exercise, but I think the proteins had really started working.

9/10

Lost 4 kgs

LOST 4 KGS: By the end of my 30-day schedule, I felt the skin under my arms had miraculously become an inch tighter. Even the skin on my face had reduced pores. The bonus of all this was that I lost 4 kgs! Yes, I know that if you leave carb, you tend to lose weight, but the firmness of your skin does not come with only leaving carbs. I am pretty sure it had a lot to do with two eggs every day.

10/10

Pro tip

PRO TIP: Do not overdo eggs and make new recipes like filled egg salads or add eggs to your dal so that you don’t get bored.
