1/10

Throbbing headache

What is the one thing, which has the ability to single-handedly ruin your day? Think of a pulsating, throbbing headache with stinging pain. In addition to migraine, it is the sinus headache that sends us running for painkillers.

2/10

Sinus headache

Apart from the incessant throbbing, one can also feel pressure around the forehead, cheeks and eyes.

Experts advise us against taking antibiotics to treat the painful pressure as it is mostly caused by viruses.

3/10

What causes sinus?

Sinus is caused when excess mucus builds behind the cavities of the face. In other words, it is the inflammation of the mucous membrane that causes this unbearable pain in the forehead and unbearable pressure on the face.

Fortunately, there is an array of home remedies that can provide immediate relief from the sinus pain.

4/10

Take steam

If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. The dried up mucus in the nasal cavity and sinus passage can form crusts. The easiest way to tackle this problem is to inhale steam which will help the mucus to get thin and get moving.

5/10

How to take the steam?

To do so, simply stand in a steamy shower and breathe deeply. It will help in opening your nasal passage and soothe the sinus headache. Alternatively, you can also boil a pot of water and trap the steam by putting a towel over your head. Bend over the pot to inhale the steam. If you wish, you can also add a few drops of essential oils of your choice.

6/10

Warm compress

This one is the easiest. To relieve the sinus pain, apply a warm compress to your face. Placing it on your eyes and nose can help to break up any blockage. You can also alternate between cold and warm compress.

7/10

Spicy food

As strange as it sounds, there is a reason why spicy foods are known to alleviate sinus symptoms. Remember, how we get running nose after eating anything spicy? There is an active ingredient known as capsaicin in spicy pepper, which is known to be a natural pain reliever, according to some reports.

8/10

Sing your favourite song

According to some researchers in Sweden humming for at least one minute or more may help alleviate the symptoms of a sinus headache. This happens because humming increases airflow, which further helps in keeping your sinuses clear. So, try humming your favourite song the next time you want to improve the sinus pain.

9/10

Stay hydrated

This one is a no-brainer. The more hydrated you are, the lesser is the thickness of your mucus. Drinking a lot of water will help in keeping your sinuses moist and will help you feel better. As a rule of thumb, you should avoid any drinks that dehydrate you.

10/10

Cinnamon

It is a known fact that cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties. If your sinus headache is not subsiding, mix some cinnamon with honey to relieve the symptoms. If you are worried about the taste, you can also make a Cinnamon paste with water and apply it on your forehead.
