Are you getting enough protein?

Protein is the building block for our body but most people don't get enough protein from their daily diet. Nutritionist and dietician Vallari Shah helps you understand the essentials of protein intake.

How much do you need?

Unlike fat, protein is not stored in the body and that's why it needs to be taken every day. Adult men need approximately 56 grams of protein a day and adult women need about 46 grams a day.

Endurance training and protein intake

If you are into endurance sports such as running marathons, swimming, gynastics etc, you need protein intake of 1.2 to 1.5 gram per kg of body weight per day.

Sports and protein intake

If you play hockey, cricket, basketball, football, boxing, you need a higher protein intake of 1.4 to 1.8 grams per kg of body weight per day.

EGGS

Egg is a brilliant source of protein. A medium sized egg contains about 6.5 grams of protein.

FISH and SEAFOOD

Fish is another good source of protein. It also contains iron and Vitamin B12.

CHICKEN

Chicken consists of high quality protein. 100 grams of chicken breast contains 30 grams approx. of protein, which is 70 per cent of your daily value.

Not only protein rich, they contain Vitamin E and anti oxidants.
