Is Monkeypox a threat?

77 new cases of this viral disease found for the first time in the UK, makes it a threat for every country as international communications are being eased in view of lesser COVID cases.

A total of 800 cases of monkeypox have been detected in countries like the US, the UK and several European nations which did not have monkeypox cases till date.

Monkeypox is not new. But the rate at which it is spreading to countries where it was never found before poses a serious threat even for a country like India which has not yet found a single case of the disease.

Several suspected cases have been sent to laboratories for confirmation but none have tested positive.

Which symptoms in the Ghaziabad girl led to testing?

The girl, a minor from Patna, who has been declared having no monkeypox virus after staying isolated for a week was undergoing an ear ailment treatment.

It was her doctor who informed officials about the rashes in her body.

The rashes looked like pox-lesions. This called for immediate action on determining whether it is monkeypox or not.

She did not show any symptoms of monkeypox.

The girl was isolated in the private clinic itself and samples were collected from her and sent to the laboratory for testing.
