After recent rain, follow these rules to prevent dengue

In recent days, dengue fever has been the most common viral disease. A prolonged period of rain in previous weeks may raise the possibility of a rise in dengue incidents all around the country. Mosquito Aedes aegypti, the vector of dengue usually thrives in clean and stagnant water such as rainwater leftover on various hard surfaces. There is a chance that dengue cases will continue to rise until November, even post the monsoon season, since dengue mosquitoes continue to breed for the following four months.

2/6

Take proper precautions

By avoiding mosquito bites and wearing insect repellent constantly, especially when spending time outside, one can avoid contracting dengue. Long pants and full-sleeve shirts are preferred.

3/6

Don’t neglect these symptoms

"Fever, headaches, eye pain, joint or bone pain, rashes, nausea, and vomiting are among the most common symptoms of dengue," says Dr Shivali Ahlawat, MBBS, MD, Lab Director, Oncquest Laboratories Ltd.

4/6

Eat a balanced diet

Low immunity is a problem in most patients, which makes things worse, like a deficiency in Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and Vitamin C deficiency. This is why it's important to drink plenty of water, natural beverages like coconut water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Moreover, make sure to take proper rest and in case of fever, the dengue test should be done at the earliest along with the total platelet count

5/6

Antigen test

Dengue virus antigen and antibody detection serological tests are the basic test for the diagnosis of dengue. Molecular tests for identification of dengue virus can also be done.

6/6

Takeaway

Dengue is a fatal disease and needs to be taken seriously. Make sure to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites during India's mosquito breeding season, which is typically around the monsoon. Never forget the saying, "Treatment without prevention is unsustainable".
