Can COVID vaccine side effects resemble COVID symptoms?

In light of the recent surge in the coronavirus cases, India has become one the world's worst hit countries in the world. Given the debilitating symptoms experienced by the people and the lack of basic health amenities, the situation in the country continues to worsen day by day. That said, the vaccination drive which is to begin today is nothing but a blessing in disguise. While many continue to remain sceptical, it is however the best chance we have.

Vaccination drive for 18+ begins

The second wave of coronavirus has left India and its population in a state of constant fear and panic. While people are battling the deadly virus in every way possible, Indian healthcare system continues to falter every passing day. At such a time, the 4th phase of vaccination drive for people above the age of 18, which is to begin today, is not just a beacon of hope, but a much needed step to fight the COVID crisis in India.

3/10

How important is it to get the COVID vaccine?

With the onset of different new COVID mutations and an increase in the list of severe symptoms, it becomes all the more important to get the vaccine. While the first wave of COVID-19 primarily impacted the old and the most vulnerable, experts believe that the second wave is more infectious, dangerous and more transmissible. Therefore, it is crucial that everyone, who fits the eligibility criteria, must get their vaccine jab.

4/10

Common vaccination side effects that may feel like COVID symptoms

While vaccinations have become our only hope in these dire times, it is important to note that they are not devoid of side effects. Different individuals have been experiencing varied ranges of post vaccination symptoms. From fever, fatigue, nausea to body ache, many symptoms have come up in people who have already received their COVID vaccines. Some of these adverse reactions may even feel like COVID symptoms. Some even fall prey to misinformation that claims that the vaccines cause COVID infections, which according to doctors is not true.

When a person receives a vaccine shot, it tricks the body to think it is suffering from an infection, which is why side effects can arise in the process. That said, to help you identify the difference, here are some side effects of the vaccine that may resemble COVID symptoms.

5/10

Fever and chills

Fever accompanied by chills and shivers are some of the most common side effects of the COVID vaccines. Not to say that these can be signs of COVID-19 infections too. However, if you experience a high temperature straight after your vaccine, it is just your body reacting to the jab.

6/10

Fatigue

Many have also reported signs of extreme fatigue that last for a day or 2 at the most. Therefore, it is crucial you rest well and hydrate yourself.

7/10

Headache

Given that the vaccine mimics the infection in order to activate the antibodies, you're bound to experience various pains and ache. Headache can be a common sign, which may be mistaken for a COVID symptom.

8/10

Nausea

With the onset of fever, chills and fatigue, there's a possibility that you may feel nauseous. Dizziness and headache can often lead to a feeling of vomiting, which will subside over a short time.

9/10

Joint pain

Apart from the above mentioned vaccine side effects, body ache and joint pain have been reported amongst the vaccinated group of people. A common sign of COVID-19, if you have just received the jab, there is no need to panic.

10/10

How to cope?

Doctors recommend ample rest after getting your vaccines. Drink plenty of fluids and do not overburden your body with stressful and hardcore jobs. A good diet can bring back the same vitality. In order to manage the pain, you can take pain relieving medications prescribed by the doctors. In case the side effects persist for a long time, contact your doctors.

After my second dose, there were a lot of rashes although not so itchy. It took around 4 days to heal. I didn't apply or consume any medicine.
