Coronavirus: 5 mild symptoms of COVID which can also make the person a potential spreader

People with mild symptoms are also known as the silent spreaders of COVID

Mild symptoms of the COVID are one of the many reasons why the infection took the shape of a pandemic; the other one is asymptomatic COVID cases. Due to these seemingly not-so-severe symptoms people do not bother to get tested for the virus and end up spreading it massively.

Irrespective of the nature of the symptoms and also whether the symptoms are visible or not, COVID is transmitted from an infected individual to a healthy one. The potential of a mild symptom individual in spreading the infection is exactly the same as the potential of a patient who has severe symptoms.

The silent spreaders of COVID

It is definitely possible to spread the infection even if the symptoms look like that of a common cold or flu. You do not necessarily need to be severely infected or hospitalized to be considered a threat.

The people who come under the "silent spreader" category are asymptomatic, presymptomatic and mildly symptomatic.

While the former two groups of patients are oblivious to the fact that they are carrying the virus, the mild symptomatic ones are those who spread the infection due to their negligence.

3/9

Fever or chills

Many among us live with the belief that a fever runs its own course no matter what and it will subside on its own. However, the fact is this might not be a serious issue for you, but it might be a big risk for those living around you.

With even a mild high temperature, you might be fine in carrying out your daily activities, but in the process you might be shedding the virus from your body and someone else might be inhaling it.

4/9

Cough

Those occasional coughs that you have might not be bothering you but the air droplets might be lethal for others. Therefore social distancing has always been one of the most important anti-COVID protocols.

COVID cough is usually dry and is accompanied by shortness of breath.

An ideal way to prevent viral transmission through coughing is to wear face masks or else to cover your face with a cloth or with your elbow while coughing.

5/9

Sneezing

One of the notable things seen in people while sneezing is that they just expel the sneeze everywhere. While pressured sneezing is not recommended, people should cover their mouth and nostrils while sneezing. Sneeze contains air droplets that carry the coronavirus.

Since the air droplets are forcefully expelled during sneezing, they disperse into the environment far and wide immediately and hence there is a chance they can be inhaled by lots of people at the same time.

6/9

Runny nose

This is another symptom where the patient can be a potential spreader. Runny nose or congestion in the nose are one of the many symptoms which are distinct to COVID.

This is commonly seen during cold or flu. Therefore people ignore its presence and also do not care about disposing of the nasal fluid in a hygienic manner.

Everytime you clean your nose make sure to dispose of the napkin properly. Make sure it is thrown away at a far place from where there is a less chance of transmission.

7/9

Sore throat

This might surprise you; how can my sore throat infect others? Sore throat or throat infection happens when the virus dwells in the throat region. While it may seem that you are not spreading the infection but actually you are shedding loads of virus.

An itchy throat or sore throat was a typical symptom observed during the third wave of COVID which was led by the Omicron.

8/9

Other COVID symptoms

Apart from these mild symptoms there are several other symptoms which don't account for spreading of the virus, but hint towards an infection. Taking medical assistance for such symptoms can also stop the spread of the infection.

Such COVID symptoms are: headache, muscle ache, body pain, diarrhea and nausea which can indicate the presence of the virus in the body.

Once detected, it is always advisable to remain isolated till the completion of the infection.

9/9

Bottom line

COVID symptoms, mild or severe, should be dealt with equal care and precaution. Apart from medical measures like vaccination, cutting the chain of transmission by wearing face masks and keeping the hands clean are essential to stop the spread of the virus.

The whole idea behind stopping the spread of the virus is to cut the chain of transmission between human beings. During the initial days of the pandemic, governments worldwide had imposed lockdown measures. Isolation, remaining indoors, not engaging in social get together have proved to be effective in controlling the pandemic.
