6 nutrients that may slow down premature hair thinning

In the busy daily routines and increasing loss of focus on a healthy diet and elevated pollution, one thing that accompanies a queue of stress is strings of hair whenever you comb. Hair loss and thinning can be the result of various causes such as heredity, hormones, medical conditions, a change in diet and more. But did you know that the simple addition of some nutrients to your diet can help prevent premature hair thinning efficiently? Find out below!

2/7

Protein

The hair is mostly formed by a protein called keratin, which is vital for its growth, strength and overall health. Without its presence, the hair can become weak, brittle and even begin to thin. Thus, the addition of protein through proper forms in the diet is important to ensure the prevention of premature hair thinning. Some efficient sources of protein are eggs, fish, poultry, dairy and legumes.

3/7

Iron

Iron is a mineral that aids the red blood cells in carrying oxygen to the hair follicles. When the nutrient is low, it can lead to increased shedding and thinning of hair, especially in women. In order to ensure proper intake of iron, consider adding red meat, poultry, spinach, lentils, beans and more to your diet.

4/7

Vitamin

According to Harvard Health, Vitamin D is essential for creating the cells that develop into hair follicles. A low amount of vitamin D in the body has been linked to hair loss and thinning.

5/7

Vitamin B-complex

The group of vitamins B complex, specifically Biotin, Vitamin B12 and Folate are also essential nutrients when it comes to hair health. While Vitamin B6 or biotin is important for the formation of keratin, Vitamin B12 aids in the formation of red blood cells and folate holds responsibility for cell division and growth, including that of hair follicle cells.

6/7

Vitamin A, C, E

According to a study published in the BIOMEDICAL Journal of Scientific & Technical Research, vitamins play a fundamental role in the regulation and promotion of hair growth with Vitamins A, C, and E in particular. They not only stimulate the active phases of hair growth but also protect it from damage. While Vitamin A increases sebum production, Vitamin C is important for collagen synthesis and Vitamin E improves scalp circulation.

7/7

Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are important for hair growth. These fats keep the scalp healthy through their anti-inflammatory properties, and support the maintenance of the moisture barrier of the scalp. They also prevent the hair from entering the shedding phase prematurely. A study published in the National Library of Medicine found that 89.9% women reported a reduction in hair loss and improvement in hair density after consuming Omega-3 and Omega-6 supplements for 6 months. Thus, adding these nutrients to your diet might change your hair game.
