7 ‘jugaad’ weights for exercising during the lockdown

The lockdown has us stuck at home for the next 21 days. Many of us fitness freaks still want to continue their workout routines even at home. As if switching to an at-home workout wasn’t tough enough, many of us are missing our weight training exercises since we do not have dumbbells at home. However, here is a solution for that as well. Here is a list of seven easily available household items that can be used as weights.

2/8

Water Bottles

A 1-litre bottle is the perfect switch for a dumbbell. They are the easiest to find. They make the perfect substitute for 1-kilo weights suitable for any kind of workout. Use a bottle with ridges for a better grip.

3/8

Food Cans

Food cans like those of tomatoes, beans and peas or even fruits are the perfect substitutes for dumbbells. The advantage of cans is that the weight is printed on it and you can choose one that suits your workout routine. you can wrap a few rubber bands in the centre to prevent them from slipping out of your hands.

4/8

Rolls of coins

We often have rolls of coins to account for any loose small denomination that we might need. You can easily use these rolls of coins as dumbbells when at home. If you do not have packed rolls, you can stuff a bottle or a pair of socks with coins or even pebbles and use them as weights.

5/8

Condiment bottles

Condiment bottles like that of ketchup can come in handy when you want heavier weights. Olive oil bottles or any other containers that you can find in the pantry can be the perfect substitute to dumbbells

6/8

Bags of rice or grains

Bags of grains or rice come in different sizes and you can choose your weight according to your workout routine. The smaller bags can be used as individual weights for both your arms and the larger ones can be used as a single one like a kettlebell. Such bags are easy also easy to grab and easy to lift.

7/8

Milk containers

Milk container is something we find in every refrigerator. They are perfect if you want to use something heavier. However, make sure you used a sealed carton to avoid spilling milk all over.

8/8

Cast iron skillets

This may sound funny, but their weight is perfect for a number of different exercises like the goblet squats. However, for a full grip, you will have to hold the utensil with both your hands. They are perfect for people who are used to heavier weights.
