Enhance your eyesight naturally with these yoga exercises

Because we spend so much time staring at screens these days, our eyes frequently suffer the consequences of living in a digital age. However, maintaining our eyesight is crucial even in the middle of daily chaos. Thankfully, there are easy yet efficient ways to naturally strengthen vision, and yoga provides a comprehensive strategy to improve visual health. Here are 5 yoga poses that can support and even improve your vision.

Palming: Hasta Mudra

Palming is a rejuvenating practice that provides relief to tired eyes and promotes relaxation. To perform palming, begin by sitting quietly with your eyes closed, taking deep breaths to calm your mind. Rub your palms together vigorously until they generate warmth, then gently cup them over your closed eyes. Feel the soothing warmth seep into your eye muscles, relieving tension and stress. Repeat this process at least three times, allowing your eyes to absorb the comforting heat emanating from your palms.

Blinking: Sarvangasana

Add the blinking exercise into your routine, and see how it can help combat eye strain and maintain optimal vision. Simply sit comfortably with your eyes open and blink rapidly ten times. Follow this by closing your eyes and allowing them to rest for twenty seconds while focusing on your breath. Repeat this sequence five times to get your eye muscles going and promote better circulation, essential for maintaining clear vision.

4/7

Eye rotations: Netra Vyayam

Eye rotations, or Netra Vyayam, are a beneficial practice to improve flexibility and strength in the eye muscles. Sit with a straight spine and hands resting on your lap. Without moving your head, gently rotate your eyes in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions for five to ten minutes each. This exercise helps enhance blood flow to the eyes and encourages better coordination, contributing to sharper vision over time.

Up-down movement: Bhramari Pranayama

Bhramari pranayama, also known as bee breath, not only calms the mind but also revitalises the eyes. Sit in a comfortable cross-legged position and close your eyes and ears by lightly pressing your thumbs against them. Place your index fingers between your eyebrows and your ring and little fingers at the base of your nostrils. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a few seconds, then exhale slowly while producing a humming sound. Repeat this calming breathwork five times, allowing your focus to center on the space between your eyebrows, promoting mental clarity and improved eyesight.

6/7

Focus switching: Tratak

Tratak, or concentrated gazing, is a powerful technique to strengthen eye muscles and enhance visual concentration. Hold a printed material with small letters, such as a newspaper or book, at your reading distance. Cover one eye with your hand, keeping it open to prevent fatigue, and trace the shape of a small letter for a few seconds. Then, shift your gaze to an object at least twenty feet away, allowing your eyes to relax and refocus. Repeat this process for five minutes, alternating between eyes, to improve focus and clarity of vision.

How does yoga help in vision improvement?

While yoga is primarily known for its physical benefits, its positive effects extend beyond the body to include vision improvement. Through a combination of breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and specific eye movements, yoga can enhance ocular health and visual acuity. By integrating yoga into your daily routine, you can not only enhance your physical well-being but also support clearer, sharper vision for improved overall health.
