Spices to boost immune system

Our immune system is made up of a complex network of cells, tissues, organs, and the substances, which help combat infections and other diseases.



Unfortunately, a change in weather, air pollution and the rise in flu cases are all putting a strain on our immune system. Frequent illnesses, higher stress levels, slow-healing wounds, recurrent cold symptoms are all signs of a weakened immune system. Cumin seeds

Cumin is a spice obtained from a plant called the Cuminum cyminum. Cumin seeds are great sources of antioxidants that help eliminate tiny free radicals, which attack healthy cells. Furthermore, it is also rich in iron, calcium and magnesium, which help in maintaining overall health. Not only does it add a lot of flavour to the foods and drinks, it also helps boost immunity, as it contains high anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Turmeric

Turmeric is one of the most common spices you'll find in every Indian kitchen. Besides adding flavour and colour to the food, it is also known to boost immunity and reduce inflammation in the body. Curcumin is a major component of turmeric, which is said to possess antiviral properties that help in fighting infections and illnesses. It is also rich in antioxidants, anti-fungal, antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which help keep infections at bay.

Carom seeds or ajwain is another common spice that helps add flavour to foods. It is said to have anti-inflammatory properties, which help reduce inflammation in the body and boost immunity. It is easy to consume and is also known to ease digestive issues and gastric problems.

Clove, also known as laung, is an excellent source of antioxidants that help support the immune system. It is also rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Folate, Riboflavin, Vitamin A, Thiamine, Vitamin D, Omega 3 fatty acids and contain anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which are all key to maintaining overall health and immunity.

Black pepper can aid the immune system tremendously. According to WebMD, its active compounds play a significant role in boosting white blood cells, which your body uses to fight off bacteria and viruses, hence avoiding infections.
