5 things to immediately do after waking up that can help you lose weight

At some point in our lives, we all have struggled with weight loss. While metabolism and age play a huge role when it comes to the ease of losing weight, other factors like diet, exercise, hydration, sleep habits etc also aid in weight loss. Apart from being consistent with your diet and exercise, do you know that there are some other things you can do that can aid in weight loss? Here are 5 things that you can do in the morning that can help you lose that flab...

2/6

Drink a glass of warm water with lemon

One of the simplest and most effective habits to start your day is drinking a glass of warm water with lemon. This helps jumpstart your metabolism and flush out toxins from your body. Warm water improves digestion and helps break down food more efficiently. Lemon adds vitamin C and antioxidants that boost your immune system and promote fat burning. For this, squeeze half a fresh lemon into a glass of warm water and drink it on an empty stomach before eating or drinking anything else.

3/6

Move your body (even if for 10 minutes)

After waking up, your body needs gentle movement to wake up your muscles and improve blood flow. Doing light stretching or yoga for 5 to 10 minutes can help activate your body and prepare it for the day ahead. Stretching increases flexibility, reduces muscle stiffness, and improves circulation. Yoga also helps reduce stress, which is important because stress can cause weight gain by increasing the hormone cortisol. Try simple stretches like touching your toes, side stretches, or basic yoga poses like Cat-Cow, Child’s Pose, or Downward Dog.

4/6

Eat a protein-rich breakfast

What you eat after waking up is very important for weight loss. Having a breakfast rich in protein can keep you full longer and reduce cravings later in the day. Protein takes longer to digest than carbohydrates, which means it keeps you feeling satisfied and helps control your appetite. It also helps build and repair muscles, which burn more calories even when you are resting. Include foods like eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts, or seeds in your breakfast. You can also add protein powder to smoothies if you are short on time.

5/6

Ditch the snooze

It might be tempting to hit the snooze button and sleep for a few more minutes, but this habit can actually harm your weight loss efforts. Interrupting your sleep cycle by snoozing can make you feel more tired and stressed. Lack of quality sleep increases hunger hormones like ghrelin and reduces the hormone leptin, which controls appetite. This imbalance can lead to overeating and weight gain. For this, try to wake up at the same time every day and get out of bed immediately. Place your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up to turn it off.

6/6

Plan your meals

Taking a few minutes in the morning to plan your meals and water intake can help you stay on track with your weight loss goals. Planning prevents impulsive eating and unhealthy snacking. Drinking enough water throughout the day boosts metabolism and helps your body burn fat more efficiently. Decide what healthy meals and snacks you will have during the day. Set reminders to drink water regularly. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water daily.
