5 everyday foods that can help detox kidneys and keep them healthy

Our kidneys perform one of the most important functions of the body, that is to filter blood, to remove all waste and toxins from the body, and maintain fluid and mineral balance. With abuse, alcohol, poor genes, and other lifestyle factors, the functioning of kidneys might become impaired over a period of time, leading to Chronic kidney disease (CKD).

While CKD is a progressive and non-reversible condition, we can make efforts to prevent it in the first place. While drinking enough water, and staying away from alcohol do help, there are certain foods as well that are excellent for your health. Here are 5 such foods that naturally detoxify and clean your kidneys…

The natural diuretic properties of watermelon detoxify the kidneys, and increase urine production, which helps to cleanse the urinary system, and decreases the chance of developing kidney stones. The antioxidants and vitamin C in watermelon protect kidney cells from damage, and the high water content helps the body eliminate waste products regularly. Your body will stay hydrated and waste removal will become more efficient, when you eat watermelon regularly because it improves kidney function. If you do not like having the cut fruit, you can also juice it with the fibre, and consume without any added sugar.

Not only that, the antioxidant properties of vitamin C in lemon, protect kidney cells from free radical damage. Symptoms of chronic kidney disease

As it progresses, signs may include fatigue, swelling in the ankles or face, frequent urination (especially at night), foamy urine, muscle cramps, and poor appetite. High blood pressure, nausea, and difficulty concentrating may also appear. Early detection is key to managing CKD effectively. Regular monitoring of kidney function through blood and urine tests, along with lifestyle modifications, can help slow disease progression and protect overall health. Maintaining a kidney-friendly lifestyle, such as staying well-hydrated, limiting excessive salt and processed foods, managing blood sugar and blood pressure, and engaging in regular physical activity, can further support kidney health and reduce the risk of complications associated with CKD.
