Winter Treat: How to make classic Pav Bhaji at home

Easy Pav Bhaji recipe

The calories game in winter is different. On one side you have a calorie meter and on the other you have dishes like pav bhaji craving all your senses. So, if you are thinking of walking to the other side, here we have got the classic Pav Bhaji recipe that you can try and enjoy at home. Scroll down to read the recipe.

Ingredients required


2 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp oil, 1 cup onions, 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste, ½ cup capsicum, 2 cups tomatoes, 2 medium potatoes, ½ cup cauliflower, boiled & mashed, ¼ cup green peas, 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder, 1½–2 tsp pav bhaji masala, salt to taste, 1 tsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp coriander, 6 pav buns, and butter as required

Step 1


First of all pressure cook potatoes, cauliflower, and peas until soft. Mash roughly and keep aside.

Heat oil and butter in a pan and add chopped onions and sauté till translucent. Also, add ginger-garlic paste and cook until aromatic.

Add capsicum and sauté for 2 minutes. And, add tomatoes, salt, chilli powder, and pav bhaji masala. Cook till the mixture turns thick and glossy.

Add the mashed vegetables and mix well and mash using a pav bhaji masher while cooking.

Cook the mixture on medium flame for 8–10 minutes, stirring and mashing occasionally.

Also, add some more butter, lemon juice, and coriander. Mix well and adjust seasoning. Your bhaji is ready.

Slice pav horizontally, toast on a hot tawa with butter till golden and serve hot with bhaji, onion, and lemon slices on the side.
