Why should you avoid eating curd in rainy weather

In most Indian households, it is impossible to imagine a main course meal without curd, this is because just one bowl of curd, and curd based delights can naturally give your diet a boost of probiotics and healthy fats. But as much as we love gorging on curd throughout the year, there are certain seasons when curd must be avoided or simply consumed with caution. Here’s all you need to know about curd.

2/6

What does Ayurveda says?

Consuming a bowl of curd with meals, paratha and other delicacies is a traditional culinary culture. However, this may not be great for everyone one as consuming curd in the rainy season may affect all three doshas at the same time such as Vatta, Pitha and Kapha. In fact, as per the books of Ayurveda, during this season the Vatta and Pitha dosha are often aggravated, which makes the body vulnerable and may lead to several seasonal ailments. Here are some more reasons why avoiding curd in monsoons is the best bet!

3/6

Digestive issues

According to Ayurveda, curd has a cold potency, and consuming cold and heavy foods like curd may weaken the digestive fire (agni), leading to digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and indigestion.

This is the reason why it is always advised to add in a pinch of black pepper, roasted cumin or honey to curd as eating curd without adding anything can slow down the digestive process.

4/6

Impacts immunity

As per Ayurveda, consuming foods with cold potency like curd, during the monsoon can reduce the body's immunity. Excessive intake of foods with cold potency can increase the mucus formation in the body, which leads to a sluggish gut health and makes the body prone to seasonal ailments and allergies.

5/6

May lead to respiratory issues

Eating curd on a regular basis during the rainy season can lead to development of mucus in the body, which leads to respiratory problems like cold, cough and congestion. This is also because of the moisture and humidity in the weather that leads to an increased risk of ailments and allergies.

6/6

What is the right way?

If you still want to consume curd during monsoons, then it is best to add in a pinch of roasted jeera powder, black pepper and black salt or honey, this helps in balancing out the cold potency and helps in improved digestion and gut health.
