As per the USDA database, per 100 gms of persimmon offers 70 calories, 3.6 g fiber, 80.3 g water, 0.58 g protein, 0.19 g total fat, 18.59 g carbs, 9 mg magnesium, 0.15 mg iron, and 8 mg calcium.

Actress Bhagyashree’s ‘Tuesday Tips with B’ series also mentioned the benefits of ‘amarphal’ or persimmon, a citrus fruit staple to Indian winter diets. “This is what you need to enhance your vision, strengthen your hair, give glow to your skin & improve your heart health. An all in one solution is Amarphal or Persimmon.. a winter seasonal fruit. So do try and include this in your diet so that you have all of these in the new year,” she wrote in the caption of her Instagram post.

Good for Cardiovascular health


As per a study, persimmon fruit and leaves reduce hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, and atherosclerosis risk by lowering plasma lipids, enhancing bile acid excretion, and inhibiting lipid peroxidation in animal models. Tannins and flavonoids also suppress angiotensin-converting enzymes and cyclooxygenase, aiding blood pressure control. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), one persimmon gives you 6g fiber and 55% of daily vitamin A, plus flavonoids linked to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

As per studies, it is rich in vitamin C, that neutralizes free radicals, which are unstable molecules that damage collagen and rate aging. So, eating persimmons is like double protection, stimulating collagen growth and shielding it from damage.

What does the study say?


The study titled Persimmon Leaves: Nutritional, Pharmaceutical, and Industrial Potential—A Review considers persimmon as a delicious fruit, and states that its leaves are considered a valuable ingredient in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic sectors. Traditionally, persimmon leaves are used as a functional tea in Asian culture to cure different ailments, and are also incorporated into various food and cosmeceutical products as a functional ingredient. PL mainly contain flavonoids, terpenoids, and polysaccharides, along with other constituents such as carotenoids, organic acids, chlorophylls, vitamin C, and minerals. The major phenolic compounds in PL are proanthocyanidins, quercetin, isoquercetin, catechin, flavonol glucosides, and kaempferol. It also states that the leaves have attracted much attention in the cosmeceutical industries in Asian countries due to their antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, anti-inflammatory, photo-protective, antiallergic, antibacterial, and antiwrinkle effects [6]. Moreover, PL have shown positive effects against atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, hemostasis, apoplexy, constipation, hypertension, and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. In particular, these leaves are considered as folk medicine in Asian cultures and are used as dietary supplements. As per another study, they are effective in soothing lifestyle related disparities e.g. cardiovascular disorders and diabetes mellitus. There are proven facts that pharmacological application of persimmon or its functional ingredients like proanthocyanidin may help against hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia.

Persimmon and Ginger Dessert Soup: In this dessert soup, persimmon slices are simmered with ginger and dried longan for a soothing, sweet soup. It's a gentle dessert that’s both warm and aromatic.
