The REAL reason why one should not have Khichdi on a Thursday

Thursday or Veer War, as it is popularly called in India is the day associated with Jupiter or Lord Brihaspati. It is for this reason that this day is also known as ‘Brihaspativar’. Just like Tuesdays and Saturdays, Thursday is also considered one of the auspicious days in the Hindu religion. There are certain do’s & don’ts associated with this day and are followed by many. Why Thursday is considered auspicious?

It’s a day dedicated to Lord Brihaspati, who governs the ruling planet Jupiter. On this day, many people remember their gurus and pray to them for greater knowledge and respect. Some people also observe a fast to appease Lord Brihaspati for knowledge and a great career.

Avoid eating Khichdi on Thursday

It is also the day to worship Lord Vishnu, who loves wearing yellow colour. It is for this reason people believe one should not make or eat Khichdi, as it is made using yellow moong dal and rice. Also, it is believed that eating khichdi on a Thursday can result in ‘money loss’ and attracts penury. Thus, one should always avoid having or making khichdi on a Thursday.

Other Thursday rules

In the list of do’s & don’ts, it is believed that women should not wash their hair on this day as doing so will result in the misfortune of husbands and children. Not just that, it also prohibits people from washing their dirty laundry on a Thursday, as it can result in attracting bad karma. Another popular rule of Thursday is that one should not take a haircut, shave or even cut nails on this day. When people do such things Lord Brihaspati or Jupiter gets upset, which can lead to losses in business or loss of job. On this day, it is also believed that one should not worship Goddess Lakshmi alone and must worship Lord Vishnu with him.

What one should do on a Thursday?

The ancient people believed that one should donate yellow things like bananas, yellow laddoo, yellow sari etc. Those looking to gain some respect in society, must observe a fast on this day and worship the banana tree and Lord Vishnu. It is believed, that doing so can result in great life and wisdom is imparted on you by Lord Brihaspati.
