Food delivery app served chicken in place of paneer!

Last month, when Michelin-starred chef Karunesh Khanna admitted using readymade chicken cubes in vegetarian dishes, the food world saw a major backlash. After a few weeks, a similar case popped in India, when a famous food delivery app served chicken in place of paneer to a lawyer. Later, the consumer court slapped a Rs 55,000 fine on food delivery platform along with the hotel involved in the entire process.

What actually happened?

According to media reports, a lawyer, who had ordered Paneer Butter Masala, received Butter Chicken by a famous food delivery app, not just once but twice. Later, the irritated lawyer filed a case in the consumer court against the app and the hotel involved. “Since the curries of both dishes look alike, he didn’t realise it was a chicken dish and ate it,” said the reports.

The reaction

Mentally harassed by the act, the lawyer complained against the food delivery platform.

The justification

The food delivery company informed the consumer forum that the mistake was on part of the hotel which supplied the wrong dish. Interestingly, the forum considered that both the parties were equally responsible for the mistake. The hotel, however, admitted its mistake.

The penalty

After the mistake was proved, the food delivery company and the concerned hotel were directed to pay Rs 50,000 within 45 days for deficiency in service and the remaining amount for mental harassment.
