The delicious langar

Here, the delicious langar food includes rice, dal, roti, sabzi, channa, kheer and sheera. While the menu changes nearly every day, the thought process behind every meal is to create a balanced diet that is rich in carbohydrates, proteins and other nutrients. (Image: Instagram/onlysap)

The large scale food preparation

If reports are to be believed, the Golden Temple uses nearly 12,000kg flour, 1,500kg rice, 13,000kg lentils, and up to 2,000kg vegetables on a daily basis. The cooking process involves nearly 450 volunteers at the kitchen who work 24*7 to keep it functional. Though most of the work is done by hand, a mechanised oven and conveyor belt churns out nearly 11,000 rotis an hour. (Image: Instagram/tiaandcolin)

Selfless service

The langar is the result of the efforts of hundreds of people who come to do the needful selflessly. Right from cleaning the utensils to cooking food, they involve themselves in everything voluntarily keeping aside their social status. The idea is to serve mankind and seek blessings.
