What is salmon oil and what makes it a superfood

​What is salmon oil?

Salmon oil is known for its high-levels of omega-3 fats. The primary omega-3 fats found in salmon oil are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). It also provides the body with over 80% of the recommended daily intake of omega-3 fatty acids. The intake of EPA and DHA is linked to a variety of health benefits to offer, such as a reduced risk of heart disease, improved brain health, and reduced inflammation. Taking salmon oil can be a good way to ensure that you are getting enough omega-3 acids into your daily diet, without having to eat fish!

Loaded with anti-inflammatory properties

According to various researchers, omega-3 fats found in salmon oil can suppress your body’s inflammatory response and may help manage symptoms associated with certain inflammatory diseases.

​Lower triglycerides and improve cholesterol levels

Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood. Increased levels of triglycerides may have a higher risk associated with heart disease. Various research found that consuming salmon oil may promote heart health by reducing triglycerides and increasing levels of HDL (good) cholesterol.

​Improve bone health

Higher omega-3 intake is associated with higher bone density, which could help prevent bone disease. It also helps in fighting against inflammation by suppressing inflammatory genes and may help in easing symptoms related to chronic disease.

Improve brain health

It has long been thought that omega-3 fatty acids play a role in maintaining optimal brain health by keeping up the DHA levels in the brain. Salmon oil could, therefore, be a useful addition to anti-depressants, as well as a brain-boosting supplements and decrease the risk of age-related memory problems.

- Drizzle it over salad or mix it into a salad dressing.

- Use in marinades or sauces for meat, fish, poultry, and vegetables.

- Drizzle over cooked pasta or vegetables.
