What happens when you consume Matcha Chia Pudding


The internet has been captivated by the recent trend of matcha drinks. While many are criticizing it for the unpleasant taste, there are experts who find it healthy for the gut and liver. Gastroenterologist Dr. Joseph Salhab, in a recent post on Instagram, talked about the benefits of consuming matcha chia pudding for liver health. What is Matcha


For the unversed, it is a type of finely ground powdered green tea made from specially grown and processed young green tea leaves, traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. It is more concentrated in nutrients and antioxidants.

Ingredients


1 to 2 tbsp chia seeds, 1 to 2 tsp matcha powder or 1/4 to 1/3 cup strong brewed green tea, cooled, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt or plain kefir, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1–2 tsp maple syrup (or to taste)

Method

If using matcha: whisk with a bit of yogurt or kefir to fully dissolve. If using brewed tea: make sure it’s strong and cooled. In a jar or bowl, combine chia seeds, yogurt or kefir, matcha or tea, vanilla, and maple syrup. Mix thoroughly. Let sit for 5 minutes, stir again to prevent clumps. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until thick and pudding-like. Stir before serving. Top with berries or eat as is.

According to Dr Joseph's post, is a powerful combo for liver health as matcha is rich in antioxidants that help protect liver cells from damage, while chia seeds provide the fibre that supports digestion and detoxification. Together, they promote better metabolism, reduce inflammation, and aid in flushing out toxins, making this pudding a tasty way to give your liver a natural boost.

According to a study, daily supplementation of chia seeds helps increase plasma alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), reduce visceral abdominal fat , body weight, and total cholesterol as well.

Another study states that dietary supplementation with matcha helps prevent excessive accumulation of visceral and hepatic lipids, reduce elevated blood glucose, improve dyslipidemia, normalize liver function, and reduce steatosis and hepatitis as well.
