Is it safe to eat eggs daily?

When it comes to eggs, they are often considered as a superfood rich in protein and other necessary nutrients. And from weight loss to boosting metabolism eggs are helpful in many ways. And for the unversed, protein is the building block of the human body, which helps in building, repairing, and maintaining tissues. It forms the foundation of muscles, skin, hair, and even enzymes and hormones that regulate key bodily functions. It works like fuel that keeps you active and charged throughout the day. In a recent post on Instagram, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities discussed what happens if you eat eggs daily for 14 days. How many eggs to consume

A study tudyconducted by the journal Food & Nutrition has provided new insights into how egg intake benefits overall health. The research tracked around 19000 adults and revealed that those who consumed 1.5 eggs daily exhibited stronger bones compared to individuals who completely avoided eggs. It has been mentioned that those who ate eggs displayed 72 percent increase in bone density and 83% increase in bone density at the spine. These results challenge earlier beliefs about the dangers of egg consumption and underscore their potential benefits for bone health, especially in adults prone to osteoporosis.

Nutrients in eggs


As per experts, eating one egg daily can give your body as much as 75–76 calories, 7-8 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat, and 1.6 grams of saturated fat, along with a plethora of nutrients that not only help in building muscles and boosting immunity but also help in the regeneration of cells and tissues. As per experts, with over 6g of protein per egg, it makes for the perfect choice to meet almost half the recommended dietary intake for toddlers and almost a third of the recommended dietary intake for older children.

Benefits of eggs in a diet


They are packed with 13 different vitamins and minerals. They contain choline, a nutrient that contributes to healthy brain development, among other things. They are also rich in iodine, iron, quality protein, omega-3 fat, and vitamins A, D, E, and B12. When eaten as a high-protein breakfast, they can boost a child’s satiety levels and reduce hunger too.

According to his video, first, your brain can benefit. Eggs are rich in choline, a nutrient used to make acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important for memory and focus.

He furhter explains that eating eggs daily can improve your cholesterol profile. In many people, eggs can actually increase HDL, the good cholesterol, he adds.

He also states that eggs are good for your eyes and get protective nutrients. He explains, "Egg yolks contain lutein and zeaxanthin. These are the antioxidants that help filter high energy, blue light and support eye health. Eggs also provide sulfur-containing amino acids that help your body produce keratin, which is important for hair, skin and nails."

Vegetarian alteranatives

According to Saurabh, if you are a vegetarian, soy foods i.e. tofu, tempeh and edamame are the closest plant-based protein equivalent to eggs and can be added in daily diet.
