Viral: Reverse Vada Pav picture sparks outrage; Mumbaikars feel cheated
The internet has done it once again! The popular Mumbai staple, vada pav, has been reimagined into a 'reverse vada pav', and has gone viral and has left the Mumbai foodies fuming this time.
An unusual snack was clicked through a photograph taken by a Mumbaikar, a man from Mumbai, who put up an online image of a fried potato vada stuffed inside a hollowed brioche bun for INR 190. The gourmet version of street food has not proven to be welcoming to the locals.
Social media users were swift to criticize the concept, describing it as a non-essential and overpriced affair. Comments flooded the page, including one that read, "This is a joke that reverses all progress in culinary arts," while another cracked, "We are happy with the straight combination of vada and pav."
Some even claimed that humour made the debate "reverse." Adding some bit of semantics play, one comment read, "A true reverse vada pav should be pav sandwiched between two hot vadas," whereas another was found to say jokingly, "Isko kha ke ulti karni hoti hai kya?
The steep INR 190 also sparked controversies. Vada pav, which has been termed the "poor man's burger," Mumbai has religiously treasured its ease of access and affordability. One user was infuriated, "Why reinvent the wheel when the regular still captivates?" Others said it was gross, not even appetizing enough, asking if it had anything to do with the original vada pav.
The fusion food has sparked a heated debate, but one thing is clear: Mumbaikars aren't ready to trade their humble vada pav for a pricey brioche experiment.
