How these herbs boost gut health


A healthy gut is a sign of a healthy body. And that's why experts often stress taking extra care of gut health. Regular consumption of fast foods and processed packaged foods often leads to complicated gut health, and that is the beginning of different gut-related diseases. What's the solution? Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a carousel post on Instagram where he mentioned about eight Indian herbs that he consumes to keep his gut healthy. He has also suggested the right way of consuming these herbs. Take a look.

Turmeric

According to Saurabh, turmeric reduces gut inflammation and supports bile flow.

How to consume: One can simply add turmeric to warm milk or curries to soothe from the inside out.

Ginger

It is said to relieve nausea, bloating, and sluggish digestion, informs Saurabh.
How to consume: One can steep ginger in daily tea, especially after big meals.

Fennel Seeds

As per Saurabh, these seeds are naturally designed to reduce bloating and gas.
How to consume: He suggests chewing a few seeds after meals or making a calming tea with them.

Cumin

These seeds are said to boost bile and ease IBS cramps.
How to consume: One can toast these seeds into dals or veggie stir-fries

Cinnamon

As per Saurabh, consumption of cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar and calms gut motility.
How to consume: He suggests adding them to oats, kefir, or sprinkle cinnamon powder in coffee or tea.

Peppermint

This herb is said to relax gut muscles and soothe spasms.
How to consume: As per Saurabh. one can enjoy peppermint tea or capsule for better results. He warns people with reflux to avoid it.

This herb feeds good gut bugs and helps fight off the bad ones, states Saurabh.
How to consume: He suggests that garlic works best when lightly crushed before cooking.
