Expert shares the right way to consume seeds

Seeds are a pure form of nutrition. From Ayurveda to modern medical science, everyone trusts the benefits these tiny seeds offer and the way they shape the healthy body. According to a study as well, these tiny seeds are rich in heart-healthy fats, protein, fiber, minerals, and antioxidants that boost cardiovascular health, reduce inflammation, regulate blood pressure, and improve cholesterol levels. Addressing the benefits of seeds, Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford universities, recently shared a list of three seeds he consumes regularly to keep the gut healthy and the right way to add them to the daily diet. Scroll down to read the details.

2/4

Chia Seeds

According to Dr Saurabh, it is packed with soluble fiber and forms a gel when soaked and this gel does three things. First, it slows down sugar absorption. Second, it feeds your gut microbiome. Third, it helps you poop better. He warns, do not eat them dry, rather soak them for at least 15-20 minutes or overnight before consumption.
How to consume: He suggests mixing 1-2 tablespoons of soaked chia seeds in almond milk or yogurt and add berries

3/4

Flax Seeds

As per Dr Saurabh, these are tiny but powerful seeds, which are rich in omega-3, especially ala, and these are anti-inflammatory. However, the human body cannot absorb much from whole flax seeds, hence, it is better to grind them and add them to diet. They help with bloating, hormone balance, and even cholesterol management. As per studies, the ALA and lignans in flax reduce inflammation by inhibiting pro-inflammatory agents, which may help alleviate conditions like cardiovascular disease and chronic inflammatory disorders. The soluble fiber found in these seeds act as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial gut microbes and promoting a balanced microbiome.
How to consume: Dr Saurabh suggests using a tablespoon of ground flax seeds in smoothie or oatmeal 3-4 times a week.

4/4

Basil Seeds

Also called sabja seeds, these look like chia seeds but are even better. They puff up fast, give you the same fibre benefits, and support digestion.

How to consume: He suggests mixing them in almond milk or yogurt for maximum benefits.
