Thanksgiving side dishes: 5 easy recipes you must try

One of the best holidays of the year, Thanksgiving is arriving soon on November 27th, 2025. The day involves sharing a feast with your friends and family while recounting the blessings of the year. For this year's Thanksgiving feast bring out your inner Monica and prepare some delicious sides that will have your guests wanting more seconds. These will not only complement your main dish but also make for an interesting pairing with each other. Here are 5 Thanksgiving sides you must try this year, inspired from Sally's Baking.

2/7

Butternut squash mac and cheese

Mac and cheese isn't just easy to make, it is the symbol of childhood nostalgia for many. You will need kale, white cheddar, salt and pepper, Greek yogurt, pasta, garlic milk, broth, and butternut squash. Boil and simmer the squash with milk, broth and garlic. In another pan cook the pasta and kale. Puree the squash mixture in a blender with some Greek yogurt, salt and pepper. Pour the puree into a large bowl and add the cheese and pasta. Mix together and then set it in a large baking dish after topping with breadcrumbs and more cheese. Bake for about 25 minutes and enjoy!

3/7

Pumpkin pie in a jar

This year make a hassle-free pumpkin pie. You will need egg yolks, cornstarch, whole milk, sugar, butter, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, Biscoff cookies, vanilla extract and salt. Combine the cornstarch and egg yolks while simmering the milk and sugar together in a pot. Now temper the yolks and slowly add the hot milk mixture. Keep stirring and then whisk in the pumpkin. After, pour it all into the saucepan through a sieve, and boil. After it cools down, whisk in the butter, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice and a pinch of salt. Crush the Biscoff cookies into crumbs with a little butter and brown sugar. Now layer the crumbs in a jar, followed by the pumpkin cream and pipe some whipped cream on top.

4/7

Ham and potato casserole

For this warm and cheesy casserole, you require potatoes, cooked ham, cheese, smoked paprika, ground mustard, parsley, butter, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, flour and milk. Par-boil the potatoes after peeling. Make the sauce while adding butter, garlic, onion, smoked paprika, mustard, parsley, flour and milk. Now combine the potatoes, ham, cheese and sauce in a baking dish and bake.

5/7

Candied sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a Thanksgiving favourite and can easily be the hero ingredient of multiple dishes. But while you might have been making casseroles with it, they can make for a candied side dish too. Take 5-6 medium sweet potatoes, peel them and slice them into 1/2 inch slices. To prepare the sauce you will need butter, water, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and vanilla extract. Put all these ingredients in a pot, boil for 2 minutes and pour it on the sweet potatoes. Mix well and bake for an hour while stopping to stir the sweet potatoes every 20 minutes.

6/7

Rosemary and garlic pull-apart bread

Begin by preparing the dough with yeast, sugar, milk, butter, salt, egg, flour, rosemary and garlic powder. Divide the dough into 12 pieces, flatten them into 4-inch circles, spread garlic herb butter on top and sprinkle with cheese. Fold the circles in half and arrange upright in a loaf pan.

7/7

Memorable Thanksgiving meals

Make Thanksgiving 2025 the most memorable one yet by truly experimenting with your cooking capabilities. Try adding a mix of all to your table with a cheesy casserole, candied sweet potatoes, delicious mac and cheese and a sweet pumpkin pie jar.
